Happy Birthday! My 3 year old Turns 4

My 3 year old Turns 4

My 3 year old is not longer three and today according to her she’s a “big girl” turning four.  Another milestone passes.  Yesterday she had her party with her nursery friends, she had such a lovely day.  When she finally went to bed she fell asleep talking midflow and very unlike her slept for 12 hours straight.

Maybe because we consider ourselves slightly older parents the thought of having a house-full of 3-4 year olds filled us with trepidation but I had the forethought of organising my oldest girls’ friends to come and act as babysitters-come-entertainers.  What a brilliant idea that was.  It’s the benefit of having much older sisters.  This idea was especially handy as the day turned out to be a typical English summer of showers so instead of having an outside garden party, the children were forced to spend some of their time indoors.  Nothing quite as challenging as trying to keep track of 3-4 year olds in a little house who love nothing but to run around.  Between us, granddad and the teenagers we managed the two hours without losing a child and even achieved the task of making them all enjoy themselves, not bad going I say.

For anyone that has followed my little one’s progress with her mild cerebral palsy will know she couldn’t walk by herself more than 5 or 6 steps but in the last 2 months her walking has improved greatly to the point she doesn’t have to use her K-walker.  When she attends full-time school in September she will need the walker for the playground because there is nothing for her to use to stop herself.  She walks a certain distance and then has to stop against something, stopping is a very difficult thing for her to control.  Inside the school she will be fine but the vast playground with nothing to act as her barrier is too much for her.

We are all proud of her achievement and so is she, every week that goes by she is getting stronger and obviously her muscles are getting stronger too.  It takes a lot out of her and makes her incredibly tired.

Below the children playing the game Sleeping Lions.

When I read about your marriage (all that time ago!) I shed a tear and now reading this likewise. Well done. She is a credit to you.

Happy birthday to your little one – she shares it with me, and I remember playing sleeping lions at my birthday party too! I hope she has a great time at school in the autumn.

Looks like everyone had a great time! Congrats on a special birthday.

You may not have a warm feeling for 3 and 4 year olds right now, but you may feel differently later on – as I think back on my two girls, 3 and 4 are the age I miss most – that’s the age when they greet you each day like you are the most important person in the world, and it’s also the age when their own self image begins to take hold, and that’s a amazing thing to witness and behold.

Enjoy these special years.

Happy Birthday to your little one, Azélia!

What happy smiles from her and it’s wonderful to see her walking! I’m glad that all went well and it was a great idea to involve the teenagers!

No dr Fugawe – I meant a room full of other people’s 3-4 year olds and their tendency to get into every little hole of the house! Don’t forget I’ve two older girls so been through this stage twice…I love the age she is now, from 3 yrs onwards…they say the funniest things! And this little one has an incredible sense of humour already and ability to make fun of people, she’s great company.
